Borrowing From the Library

how this works

please note

THE STACKS are coming back online as, slowly but surely, I get all 1000+ titles relisted. If there are titles you want but cannot find in The Stacks yet, you can order by email.

Who can borrow

and what are the responsibilities

ZINES ARE SHIPPED TO USA ADDRESSES ONLY. (Special handling for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.)

BORROWERS MUST REGISTER with a valid email account and physical address.

BORROWERS MUST RETURN all their zines in a timely fashion before the next order is made.

BORROWERS MUST AGREE TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS  and must honor the CRLL’s policy regarding (not)scanning, copying, or otherwise reproducing borrowed zines to share online. Details in the footer below.

BORROWERS ARE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE for damage to or loss of the zines.

What does it cost

and how do I pay

$7.00 COVERS THE SHIPPING of one box of zines to you by USPS Media Mail. (Note the change from $6 to $7 shipping. The USPS has raised rates, so a price increase is necessary.) This is paid up-front to the librarian before your zines are boxed for mailing.

BORROWERS PAY the $7.00 with Paypal or with a check, cash, or money order mailed to the librarian. (Further instruction is provided at check out.)

BORROWERS ALSO PAY TO RETURN THE ZINES. Expect the return cost to be about the same as the initial postage, which you can see on the USPS sticker.

and how long may I keep them

YOU MAY BORROW A MAXIMUM OF 5 TITLES each order.

The shipping boxes generally hold five average-sized zines. If an oversized zine is ordered, it’s possible only four – or even fewer – will fit in the box. Your librarian will contact you if this is the case.

ZINES MAY BE KEPT FOR TWO MONTHS. Your enclosed invoice will note the return-by date.

What about returns

BORROWERS RETURN THE ZINES VIA THE USPS. The cost varies depending on the weight of the box, but you should expect to pay around $7.00 for Media Mail.

PURCHASING INSURANCE IS A GOOD IDEA if you choose Media Mail to make your returns. Though not mandatory, the requisite fee might offer peace of mind. The cost to replace lost or damaged zines is at least $10 each (and some are even more expensive).

A CRLL RETURN LABEL IS INCLUDED in your package. Use the same box for your returns.
